I’ve heard that ALAN’s emphasis for 2026 is “Logistics Ready.” But what exactly does that mean? More important, what’s potentially in it for me and my nonprofit?
Every organization relies on logistics. But using it to its full potential can be a challenge, especially when it comes to preparing for disasters. (And we’re not just saying that. According to our most recent non-profit logistics survey, 81% of humanitarian organizations mentioned that they had challenges arranging their logistics activities and services.)
This year, ALAN will be shining a light on this opportunity in a big way. And as always, we’ll provide you with numerous logistics readiness resources to help support the already-excellent work you do.
Among other things, this means we’ll be working hard to help you:
-
- Identify the true value of logistics to your organization. (How much of your time and budget should you dedicate to logistics? What is the best way to plan these activities when disasters are always so uncertain?)
-
- Get a better bead on the many factors besides weather that have the potential to disrupt your organization’s supply chain – and why they deserve a closer look. (What happens when commercial activities are disrupted, or you experience an extended power outage at your warehouse – or if certain sources of your transportation funding suddenly evaporate? And how does all of this affect your humanitarian operations?)
-
- Become better-acquainted with logistics best practices that can improve everything from your bottom line to your transportation speed. (Great news! Supply chain simulations and optimizations aren’t just for eggheads, while investments in “luxuries” like warehouse management systems or additional material handling equipment could be the quickest way to save money in the long run.)
-
- Improve your understanding of the supply chain ecosystem. (How well do you know the many kinds of players who operate in the logistics space? What drives their operations and bottom line? And could your current approach to dealing with them be turned into an even bigger asset?)
-
- And, of course, strengthen and expand the functional relationships you’ll need to make your supply chain operate more smoothly – in all kinds of weather. (You don’t have to be popular like Galinda in Wicked. However there’s a lot to be said for the advantages of expanding and improving your ties with other nonprofits, government agencies and key logistics partners.)

Our goal is to help you be “Logistics Ready” regardless of what disruptions come your way; so that we can all, together, deliver the best experience for disaster survivors.
