More Blessed To Give Than To Receive

When I was a kid my parents told me it was “more blessed to give than to receive.”

It was Christmas, and I was nine. I bought my brother the perfect gift (a dinosaur that turned into a robot), only to discover he’d gotten me soap. At the time, I wasn’t a big fan of my parents’ advice, because seriously, what nine-year-old wants soap? But now that I’m older, the lesson resonates with me in a really big way.

At ALAN, we are fortunate to be on the giving side of numerous “presents” every year– and this year was no exception. The gifts we’ve provided haven’t always been flashy, and they certainly haven’t been wrapped. However I know they’ve been hugely appreciated by their grateful recipients.

For example, over the past 12 months, our network has provided many of the forklifts, warehouses, and trucks that have delivered key items like food, hydration, hygiene, and cleaning supplies to areas impacted by hurricanes and fires. We’ve also helped deliver inflatable boats for flood rescues (thank you, Bonded Logistics), solar batteries for shelters (props to you, UPS), furniture for rebuilt homes (muchas gracias, Celtic Studios), and supplies to help many of our furred, feathered, and finned companions (we appreciate you, Peoples Services!). Plus we’ve made it possible for numerous food banks to get the thousands of donated boxes they needed (thank you, Amazon, Hassett Express and International Paper).

So you probably know where this is going: Naturally, ALAN wants to help give away even more logistics services in 2019. But in order to do that, we’re asking you to help us fulfill one final holiday wish. Will you make a monetary donation to support our work? We never charge for our services, so all our work is made possible entirely by your generosity.

Giving is easy. You can visit our website www.ALANAid.org and click the “Donate” button on the top right of the page. Or if you prefer, you can mail a check to us at: American Logistics Aid Network, 3010 Saddle Creek Road, Lakeland, FL 33801. (As a reminder, your gift is tax-deductible. But in order to count as a 2018 donation, your gift must be electronically time stamped or post-marked December 31st.)

American Logistics Aid Network is the logistics and supply chain industry’s organization, and I’m so grateful for the gift of serving you all in my role as executive director. Thank you for allowing me to fully understand what my parents meant all those years ago – it is a blessing to serve you. Just as important, thank you for all you do to help us save lives through logistics. We truly couldn’t do it without you.

Best wishes for a joyous holiday season and prosperous New Year.

Kathy
