This summer, a colleague and I were discussing the 21st anniversary of Hurricane Katrina – and ALAN’s creation.
This summer, a colleague and I were discussing the 21st anniversary of Hurricane Katrina – and ALAN’s creation.
“Wait,” they said, “that means ALAN is old enough to drink!”
After a little more discussion, that colleague challenged me to create an ALAN “cocktail” to share with all of you.
My immediate thought was that there are already lots of great disaster drinks out there (Dark and Stormys, Twisters, and Hurricanes all come to mind). But then I realized that the world is still missing a comparable concoction for disaster relief – and that we’ve spent 21 years creating one of the best.
Ingredients
- One or more communities affected by a disaster
- Numerous passionate disaster relief organizations
- Several generous logistics organizations and individuals
- One part coordination
- One part expertise
- One part information
Directions
Take the community full of disaster survivors. Add the passion of numerous disaster relief organizations. Stir in these organizations’ information, skill, expertise and a heap of coordination. And combine with the generosity of logistics service providers and experts. Then sprinkle in liberal amounts of hope, compassion, love, empathy, humility, justice and equity.
Results mix up beautifully, forming an elixir of needed resources that can serve thousands per batch and millions per year.
Thanks as always, for being part of our recipe for success – and best wishes for a beautiful fall.
