WINTER WEATHER ALERT

Saturday, January 24, 2026

American Logistics Aid Network is ACTIVATED for Winter Storm Fern.

STORM IMPACTS

Winter Storm Fern’s impact on supply-chains is beginning to take shape. These impacts are still evolving but include travel disruptions, operational slowdowns due to safety concerns, and hazardous conditions. Broader supply chain impact reports will start to emerge tomorrow afternoon and into Monday and Tuesday. At this time, ALAN does not have another call scheduled but we will reassess each day.

Air and Rail:

Road Freight:

Major freight carriers have significantly reduced or suspended operations (both inbound and outbound) until conditions improve and are safe to operate. This means the flow of essential goods, such as food, fuel, pharmaceuticals, and retail packages, is likely to be delayed. Freight corridors along I-20, I-40, I-49, and I-69 are seeing closures and significant accidents.

Fuel:

  • Fuel availability remains strong across the affected area.
  • Availability and fuel access can be found via GasBuddyPilot, and Loves.

Utilities and Operations:

  • Power outages are reported in Louisiana and Texas, which may affect fuel stations, warehouses, cold storage, and related infrastructure.

Consumer Demand & Retail:

  • Grocery shelves are facing a surge in demand, especially for water, but inbound shipments have kept up. Water has been a critical commodity.
  • Private sector operators will focus on restoring and replenishing inventory at distribution centers to support a surge in expected demand and operations post-storm. However, resupply in affected regions may face significant delays.

Updated Resources

As initial storm impacts pass and conditions are assessed, there may be information gaps for private-sector supply chain operators. As plans for power restoration, road assessment and clearing, and re-entry are being developed, sharing them with supply chain operators can assist them in their service restoration planning.
