Why Are We Grateful To Our In-Kind Donors? Let Us Count The Ways: COVID-19/Spring Tornadoes Edition

Executive Director's Message

As I write this, we’re just a couple of days away from Flag Day.  We’re also getting close to another holiday that ALAN invented last year.

It’s called Brag Day.  And it’s truly one of our favorites, because it gives us the opportunity to celebrate the logistics community and how it’s repeatedly stepped up and enabled ALAN to “save lives through logistics” over the past several months.   Just as important, it’s a time when we take time to send them one more heartfelt thank you before we get too mired down in the next hurricane season – and the next wave of COVID-19 supply chain requests.

In light of that, allow me to share several brag-worthy facts and figures about some of ALAN’s most memorable in-kind donations this spring – with a few extra statistics thrown in to give you a chuckle.   They all add up to 316,076 additional reasons why I’m extra-thankful to be part of this extraordinary industry.

132,090 Data points updated daily by Supply Chain Intelligence Center volunteers
45,000 Boxes that International Paper donated to the Salvation Army to meet the additional demand that has arisen at food banks, food pantries and other donation points across the country
30,400 Pounds of hand sanitizer that the ATA transported from  Muskegon, Michigan, to Kansas City to help the area’s Native American tribes with COVID-19 prevention
27,131 Pounds of food delivered to Arkansas families in need during the first two runs that Core-Mark’s two donated refrigerator units made on behalf of the Arkansas Food Bank (with many more moves to come)
24,892 Pounds of food items, beverages, shampoo and laundry detergent that the American Trucking Associations and Mack Trucks moved between Feed the Children in  Lavergne, Tennessee, and Joshua’s Heart in Miami on one of their first donated transits
15,200 Pounds of donated hand sanitizer that Riverside Transport moved from  Muskegon, Michigan, to Kansas City to help the area’s Native American tribes with COVID-19 prevention
15,000 Pounds of donated PPE and other medical supplies that trucking donor CFI shipped from Minnesota to California to help MedShare support area medical workers
14,000 Pounds of contributed laundry detergent shipped from Feed The Children in Tennessee to Joshua’s Heart and other Florida charities courtesy of the American Trucking Associations and Mack Trucks (as well as its parent company, Volvo)
13,836 Units of donated baby food/baby cereal/formula that were delivered to the Denver-area Salvation Army thanks to a donated, 1,600-mile move from the Terminal Corporation, CEVA Logistics and Acme Distribution
5,600 Pounds’ worth of clean-up kits and 72-hour kits moved between Gallatin, Chattanooga and Knoxville, Tennessee thanks to Apex Moving Storage and the International Association of Movers
2,400 Approximate number of miles covered by Hassett Express’s donated move of 21 pallets’ worth of PPE and other medical supplies for the Ssubi Foundation
1,750 Boxes that International Paper donated to Rebuild Bay County – and that American Trucking Associations moved free of charge from Tennessee to Florida
1,148 Virginia families who received much-needed food and hygiene materials – including perishable  items like milk, butter and eggs – from Falls Church Anglican Church thanks to BGSA and the loan of a refrigerated trailer unit from Carolina Tank Lines (a Rinchem company)
600 Pounds’ worth of donated face masks that trucking donor CEVA Logistics transported from California to New York to help the AFYA Foundation support area medical professionals
470 Hours that supply chain association members have spent sharing solutions and challenges on ALAN’s weekly coordination calls
330 Pounds of donated hand sanitizer that reached the Dallas Police Department thanks to trucking donor ACME Truck Line
150 Estimated number of times we’ve asked ALAN’s volunteer art director Noelle Taylor for “just one more design” or “just one more change” since the COVID-19 crisis began
130 Requests for logistics support logged
32 Shipping containers’ worth of cots, tents and other large medical supplies that Bergen Logistics has been receiving, sorting and staging in order to help International Medical Corps support New York City area hospitals
31 Refrigerated trailers that Hub Group has provided free of charge to help Feeding America meet additional demand
20 Pallets of food that were transported from Feed The Children in Tennessee to Catholic Charities in Florida during another recent move thanks to the American Trucking Associations’ Workforce Heroes Program
8 Active logistics cases that are still available for you to support
5 Times that ALAN’s communications director Lori Lockman estimates she’s applied make-up since stay-at-home orders took effect
2 Shipping containers loaned by Orbital Transport to help International Medical Corps set up two field hospitals in the Detroit area
1 Focus for ALAN’s response during the pandemic – SAVING LIVES THROUGH LOGISTICS
