Finally, A Food Blog!

Executive Director's Message

Whenever there is a birthday, funeral, or other special occasion in my family, someone inevitably bakes “Jo Helen’s Lemonade Cake.”

I don’t know where the recipe originated, although I’m guessing it was probably clipped from a popular women’s magazine or even some product box.   Regardless it’s always attributed to our Grandma Jo, and the tradition has been passed down to Jo’s children, grandchildren, and now great-grandchildren.

Fulton family loyalty prevents me from disclosing the particulars here.  However, since August is a big month at ALAN (among other things, we’re celebrating our 14th anniversary), I would like to share an equally meaningful recipe with you today.

It’s not quite as old as the lemonade cake, and it’s a bit more work intensive.  But I think you’ll be able to figure out why it’s one of my favorites.

ALAN’s Recipe for Disaster Response Success

Ingredients

63 nonprofit organizations

31 association partners

650 donors

Hundreds of donations of in-kind services and expertise

Mix all ingredients generously. Spread over 14 years and 30 disasters.  And serve up with a generous heap of caring and compassion.

Yields $50 million in humanitarian aid delivered to hundreds of thousands of survivors.

Recipe may be doubled, tripled or even quadrupled  – with your help! Donate today to support our work. www.ALANAid.org

Thanks as always, for being part of our recipe for success.  And may all of your August gatherings be nothing but sweet.

Kathy

Note:  If you’re a carrier who wants ALAN to connect you with FEMA for work or new business opportunities, we’re sorry to say that you’re not in the right place.  While we at ALAN would like to be of help, we’re solely a non-profit who serves other non-profits, and we’re not able to assist with any other requests at this time.  Our best advice is to recommend that you contact FEMA directly using the links below as a starting point.   We hope you’ll find them helpful, and we wish you every success.
